Acupuncture for asthma, sinusitis and rhinitis (hayfever)
We offer acupuncture for treating hay fever, sinusitis, and asthma in adults and children; conditions that can make breathing difficult and cause headaches, facial pain, even an upset stomach.
Allergic rhinitis or hay fever can affect several organ systems and cause a range of symptoms including sneezing, itchy nose, blocked nose, dripping nose, red eyes, itchy eyes, tearing, coughing, wheezing, tiredness, and fever.
Sinusitis is inflammation of the mucous membranes in the sinus cavities. The inflammation causes the mucous membranes to secrete mucous which can swell the nasal cavities and stop them from draining, leading to congestion, loss of smell, poor quality sleep, and pain in the face and head. The mucous might also start draining from the back of the nose causing a cough or sore throat.
Acute sinusitis might be triggered by an allergic reaction (allergic rhinitis) or a viral infection. Chronic sinusitis may result from ineffective treatment of acute sinusitis. Sinusitis might also be the manifestation of an underlying imbalance within the body. For example, alcohol and certain foods can cause a weakness in the spleen organ meridian and create “damp” or “heat” in the body. Emotional disorders can also affect the spleen. Damp leads to phlegm that can accumulate in the sinus cavities.
